Constitution Day in Tajikistan! Banners proclaiming the holiday in Tajik are all over the city. I go exploring, and it appears that much of Dushanbe is also out for a stroll on an amazingly warm day (25 C / 77 F). Dushanbe is a city of wide, tree-lined boulevards. Two and three story concrete buildings are set back from the avenues. Most are fairly drab concrete, like most Soviet architecture. But some have a bit more grace and color, and feel like something you might see in Austria or France – blue and pink two story structures stretching most of the length of the block with small white balconies and large windows framed in white. Men are dressed in suits and leather jackets, but I also see a few of the classic warm-up suits. Women are wearing long, colorful dresses today. The children I see are also bundled in colorful garb.
